On April 12th, the Church honors Hieromartyr St. Zeno (Xeno), Bishop of Verona, a courageous defender of the Orthodox faith during the rise of the Arian heresy.

Born a Greek from Syria, St. Zeno embraced the monastic life early, dedicating himself to the study of Sacred Scripture. His journey led him to Verona, where the faithful recognized his holiness and chose him as their bishop.

During a time when emperors supported the Arian heresy, St. Zeno stood firm in proclaiming the truth: that Jesus Christ is the Only-Begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages. Despite persecution, he remained steadfast through preaching, writing, and pastoral care.

St. Zeno left behind numerous sermons and teachings that strengthened the faithful. After his death around 360 AD, his intercession continued to be felt. A famous miracle recorded by St. Gregory the Dialogist tells of floodwaters stopping at the very walls of his church—refusing to enter, as if held back by divine power.

St. Zeno reminds us to stand firm in truth, no matter the opposition.
