May 13 marks the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima and 45 years since the assassination attempt on Pope Saint John Paul II in St. Peter's Square. Pope Leo XIV recalled the occasion with a touching gesture at the very spot where the 1981 shooting took place. Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, the late pope's former personal secretary, recounts the harrowing moments of the attack and John Paul II's unwavering belief that it was the Virgin Mary who saved his life. Forty-five years later, the memory of that day remains deeply etched in the hearts of the faithful worldwide. EWTN News' Magdalena Wolinska-Riedi reports from Rome.
