Saint Severinus of Agaunum (11 February): Butler's Lives of the Saints

St. Severinus of Agaunum (†507) was a holy abbot, miracle worker, and defender of the Catholic Faith during the time of the Arian heresy in Burgundy. Born into a noble family, he renounced the world in his youth and entered the monastery of Agaunum — which would later become the great Abbey of St. Maurice.
During an era of doctrinal confusion, St. Severinus stood firm in the true Faith. His sanctity became widely known, and even King Clovis — the first Christian King of France — sought his help when suffering from a prolonged and incurable fever. Through the prayers of St. Severinus and the placing of his cloak upon the king, Clovis was instantly restored to perfect health.
This powerful miracle led the king to distribute alms to the poor and release prisoners — a testimony to how the holiness of one monk influenced an entire kingdom.
On his final journey, St. Severinus healed the deaf and mute Bishop Ulius of Nevers and cured a leper at the gates of Paris. Foreseeing his own death, he peacefully departed this life in 507.
His relics were later desecrated during the Huguenot persecutions, yet his memory remains preserved in the Roman Martyrology and in the faithful devotion of the Church.
