St Francis of Assisi died in 1226, and in 2026 the Church commemorates 800 years since his death. But why does St Francis still have such a profound impact on the world today? Why do millions continue to be drawn to his life, his humility, his love for the poor, and above all, his radical love for Jesus Christ?

Fr Emmanuel reflects on the conversion of St Francis, his famous prayer, “Who are you, and who am I?”, and his deep understanding that everything good comes from God. Francis knew that true greatness was found not in seeking attention or recognition, but in knowing who we are before God.

From his radical poverty and encounter with lepers to the founding of the Franciscan movement and his receiving of the stigmata, St Francis became a remarkable witness to the Gospel and to union with Christ.
