Just been to Mass and praying the Rosary on Southend seafront, I wanted to share one of the most important lessons I ever learned as a Catholic.
When we struggle with the teaching of the Church, especially on difficult issues like war, peace, abortion, contraception, or political loyalty, the answer is not to let pride take over and simply dismiss what the Church says. The answer is humility, prayer, study, and serious reflection.
Too many Catholics today are being pulled around by political tribes, media narratives, and online voices. But the Catholic faith is not a tool of the Left or the Right. The Church is not here to baptise our preferred political instincts. She is the vehicle Christ gave us for truth, salvation, the sacraments, and moral clarity.
In this video I reflect on what I call a bit of “Catholic kung fu”:
when something in Catholic teaching troubles you, do not react with pride. Wrestle with it. Take it to prayer. Study it carefully. Read what the Church has taught. Listen to the wisdom of the saints and Fathers. Ask whether your will is being placed above God’s will.
In light of the war with Iran, Pope Leo’s calls for peace and caution should not be brushed aside by partisan loyalty or political emotion. Catholics should think deeply, pray carefully, and evaluate everything in the light of Catholic teaching, just war doctrine, and the tradition of the Church.
This is a call to humility over pride, conscience over tribalism, and truth over propaganda.
