Dean Braxton joins Mark and Katherine in conversation about his experience of dying. On May 5th 2006 Dean was pronounced dead. His medical notes show that he was clinically dead for 90 minutes. Today, he shares with us what he experienced, what he learned, how it changed him and what he believes he is now called to do. This is a message of hope, especially for all those gripped by fear, as Dean himself was for so long following a childhood near drowning. Though not a Catholic, Dean, Katherine and Mark are able to find common ground in the love of Christ, the desire to be transformed, God's love for each one of us and making sense of how we live out our days here on earth in right relationship with God.

The Catholic Church has no official doctrine on Near Death Experiences, but it regards them as possible private revelations that must be interpreted carefully and always measured against Scripture and Tradition. NDEs can offer powerful personal insights and may reflect authentic encounters with God, yet they are not authoritative and can never add to or alter Christian revelation. The Church affirms that the soul can remain conscious apart from the body, so NDEs are not incompatible with Catholic teaching, but it cautions against sensationalism or drawing theological conclusions that contradict the faith. In short, NDEs can encourage and awaken faith, but they must always be discerned in the light of Catholic truth.
