As Congress returns this week, new questions are emerging about President Trump’s national security team. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is taking on additional duties as interim National Security Advisor following the removal of Mike Waltz, who has been nominated as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Democrats have expressed concern over the leadership changes, citing potential instability in U.S. national security. Senator Mark Warner has raised doubts about Rubio’s ability to effectively manage both roles. Meanwhile, Republicans have largely avoided criticizing the shift, instead praising Waltz’s nomination to the U.N. As the political landscape continues to shift, House Republicans are also facing internal divisions as they push forward key elements of President Trump’s agenda — including Medicaid, state and local taxes, and spending cuts. The coming weeks are seen as crucial for effectively passing a bill.
