A new animated film, Light of the World, hits theaters Friday, September 5th, offering a fresh retelling of the life of Christ—from the perspective of the youngest apostle, John. Produced by the Salvation Poem Project, the film features hand-drawn 2D animation and is designed to connect with audiences unfamiliar with the Gospel. Directors John Schafer and Tom Bancroft explain that the choice to tell the story through John’s eyes makes him a stand-in for the audience—asking questions and growing in faith. The film follows John’s journey from the start of Jesus’s ministry through His resurrection, highlighting a friendship that feels both personal and transformative. Though animated, the filmmakers stress the movie isn’t just for children. With deep emotional storytelling and expressive character animation, Light of the World aims to resonate with viewers of all ages and to stand the test of time. EWTN's Julia Convery has more.
