U.K. lawmakers have backed a measure to allow terminally ill adults to choose to end their lives. The historic vote takes assisted suicide a step closer to becoming law. The House of Commons approved the measure by around two dozen votes. It now heads to the House of Lords, where members can amend or delay the measure — but cannot overrule it. The bill allows terminally ill adults in England and Wales, over the age of 18 and with less than six months to live, to apply for an assisted death. According to analysis from Dr. Philip Murray of Cambridge University, Labour MPs voted 55% in favor, Conservatives were 75% against, and Green Party lawmakers voted 100% in favor. Dr. Philip Murray, an affiliated lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge, joins to share his reaction to the vote and his expectations for what will happen to the measure as it moves to the House of Lords.
