On Monday, Pope Leo will begin an 11-day apostolic trip to Africa, where roughly 20% of the world’s Catholics live. The visit will include 11 cities, eight public addresses, and eight Masses. The journey begins on April 13 in Algeria, marking the first-ever papal visit to the country. He will then visit Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea. Pope Leo XIV is the first pontiff in modern history to have firsthand knowledge of Africa across Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern, and Central regions, having visited them in person before his election on May 8, 2025.
