Senate Republicans are considering rule changes to allow them to more swiftly confirm President Trump’s nominees. The move comes as Democrats continue to slow the process in protest of his policies. Senate Majority Leader John Thune warns this obstruction could jeopardize national security. Around 1,300 positions require Senate confirmation, including Brian Burch’s nomination as ambassador to the Holy See. Senate Republicans are now considering changing the rules—such as cutting the time requirements and reducing the number of votes needed to get them passed—to a simple majority vote.
