One of the most profound and disturbing images for me is seeing only three at the foot of the cross. Everyone else distanced themselves from Jesus, even denying they knew him. They sought the peace of self-protection.
God wants us all to live in peace. However, “true peace” is not always easy or comfortable: It may involve confronting difficult truths and taking sides with those who are suffering injustice. The one who seeks the peace of his own safety, misses the true peace that comes from courageously rescuing the lives of others.
The PEACE on offer from God is one that asks all of us to heroically ... UNITE AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS!
