Venerable Fulton Sheen will be beatified this year — and most people only know him from the clips. In this episode I sit down with Monsignor Jason Gray, Executive Director of the Fulton Sheen Foundation, who has worked with Sheen's cause since it opened in 2002 and helped investigate the miracle that is now bringing "America's first televangelist" to beatification.
We talk about who Fulton Sheen actually was — the most effective television evangelist this country has ever had, his daily Eucharistic holy hour, his decades of work for the missions, and why people still call him the first Catholic influencer. Monsignor Gray walks me through the astonishing miracle behind the beatification, what it takes for a miracle to be verified in Rome, and what to expect at the Beatification Mass this September. We close with the story of what St. John Paul II said to Sheen just two months before his death.
