“Why have there been no great women artists?” is the famous and controversial question posed by Art Historian Linda Nochlin in her 1971 essay of the same title. My answer? Simply because men are better artists than women, and that the creative act is in itself male.
But, that women served an incredibly important function in the art made by men as their muse. When these natural roles were turned on their head after the post-war feminist revolution, the natural creative symbiosis between the sexes was corrupted, leading to an erasure of beauty in the world.
