Here’s a highlight from our latest interview with Helen and Dave Edwards. The full episode drops next Friday. Subscribe and hit the bell icon so you don’t miss it.
In this clip from the Beauty at Work podcast, Helen and Dave Edwards, founders of Artificiality Institute, share a counterintuitive finding from their research on AI and human decision-making.
After analyzing over 1,000 interviews, they found that the people who use AI most skillfully tend to strengthen their cognitive sovereignty: they remain aware of their choices, their accountability, and how they show up for others.
But partial, surface-level use such as simply verifying outputs (“machine’s right, machine’s wrong”) can erode expertise. In those roles, people begin to lose contact with what they themselves actually know.
The real question isn’t whether AI will automate tasks. It’s whether we are using it to extend our reasoning or outsourcing it in ways that diminish us.
