It has been 10 years since Canada legalized medical assistance in dying, or MAID, with cases rising sharply in recent years, becoming one of the country’s leading causes of death. Now, a special committee is recommending that the federal government indefinitely pause plans to expand euthanasia to individuals whose sole condition is mental illness. Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, joins to discuss how Canada got to a point where euthanasia is one of the leading causes of death in the country.
