Many of us are familiar with the Greek word metanoia, often translated as repentance. But during this reflection, a Byzantine priest explained that the word is often mispronounced, and then invited everyone into a lived experience of repentance through an ancient tradition of embodied humility.

In the Byzantine tradition, repentance is expressed not only with words but also with the body: making the sign of the cross and bowing, touching the ground, or even kneeling with your forehead to the earth.

What unfolded during the service was something deeply human and deeply healing, a powerful reminder of humility, mercy, and the beauty of reconciliation.
