What is Lent really for?

Before practices are chosen or plans are made, Lent invites us to remember the goal: deeper union with God. This season isn’t about perfection, comparison, or doing more for the sake of doing more—it’s about returning to the Lord with our whole hearts.

In this conversation, we reflect on the purpose of Lent, the freedom of discernment, and the grace God offers us even before the season begins. Lent starts not with pressure, but with listening. Not with deciding, but with inviting God into the conversation.

As Scripture reminds us: “Return to me with all your heart” (Joel 2). This is the heart of Lent—coming home, again and again.
