On the second day of his Apostolic Journey to Africa, Pope Leo XIV traveled to Annaba, the ancient city of Hippo in Algeria, retracing the footsteps of his spiritual father, St. Augustine, who served as its bishop from around 396 until his death in 430 at the age of 75. Addressing the faithful, the “son of St. Augustine” encouraged all to bear witness to God before the world with one heart and one soul, following the example of the saints.
