All eyes are on Texas as the redistricting standoff reaches a critical juncture today. State Republicans are trying to redraw their Congressional district maps to give themselves an advantage in the 2026 midterm elections, but State House Democrats remain outside of Texas, denying Republicans a quorum. The Constitution requires a census to count the U.S. population every 10 years. That tally is used to determine each state's representation in the U.S. House. The next census isn't until 2030. However, Republicans in Texas are trying to redraw their Congressional district maps now and pick up six seats. The governor of Texas says state Democrats must return to the Lone Star State and do their jobs. Governor Greg Abbott says, "Those runaway Democrats are required to act on that agenda. They're failing to do their duty." He says Democrats are just delaying the process. Abbott says he will promptly call a new session and his party will re-file the bill. Capitol Hill Correspondent Erik Rosales reports.
