Tensions are reaching a fever pitch between India and Pakistan after India fired missiles at Pakistan, marking the worst confrontation between the two nuclear powers since 2019. Protesters in Pakistan are calling for their country to respond. India’s Defense Ministry says the strike was in response to last month’s massacre of Indian tourists. Pakistan calls it an act of war and claims to have downed several Indian fighter jets. Dozens have been killed in the exchange of fire, raising concerns from the international community. Kriti Upadhyaya, Visiting Fellow for India Policy at the Heritage Foundation, joins to explain how this crisis developed, the ongoing dispute over territory in Kashmir, and whether the conflict could escalate into war.
