In a major 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic that states can legally block Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood. The case stems from a 2018 directive by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to exclude Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid program, citing concerns that Medicaid funds—even if earmarked for other services—could indirectly support abortion practices. The Court’s recent ruling determined that while Medicaid recipients may choose their providers, that right is not enforceable through the courts. John Mize, CEO of Americans United for Life, joins to break down the case and what it means for the pro-life movement. He also shares whether Planned Parenthood could receive funding again if they are able to prove that Medicaid money goes toward services unrelated to abortions.
