Saint Aprus (Aper) of Toul—born in Troyes, Champagne—served the Church with zeal, austerity, and devotion, and is remembered for miracles during and after his episcopacy. According to Butler’s Lives of the Saints (Sept 15), he succeeded St. Auspicius as bishop (late 5th c.), built a church first dedicated to St. Martin that soon bore his own name due to the veneration of his relics. His sister, Saint Apronia (honored July 15), and later testimonies—including those connected with Pope Leo IX, who had been Bishop of Toul—attest to Aprus’s enduring legacy.
Also known as Saint Aper, he is associated with Sidonius Apollinaris and St. Mansuetus (first Bishop of Toul).
