The hymn Vexilla Regis was composed in the 6th century by the Christian poet Venantius Fortunatus, bishop of Poitiers. It was first sung during a solemn procession to receive a relic of the Holy Cross that had been sent from Byzantium to this city. To this day, it occupies a privileged place in the liturgy as the Vespers hymn during Passiontide.

The melody we have chosen immediately transports us to Jerusalem, where Franciscans often sing it on festive occasions related to the Holy Cross.

During this Lenten season, we hope it will help us immerse ourselves with deep gratitude in the love of God, manifested in an unparalleled way on the Cross.
