Republicans and Democrats are already looking ahead to next November’s midterm elections in a major way. President Trump has floated the idea of having the Republican Party hold a national convention just ahead of the midterms, which will decide who controls Congress. Democrats say they are considering a similar idea. Conventions are normally held every four years leading into a presidential election. The fact that both parties are considering holding their own conventions ahead of the 2026 midterms underscores the increasing importance of next year’s election. The idea has drawn mixed reactions.
