The Wisconsin Supreme Court has struck down the state’s 1849 abortion ban. The 4–3 decision says the last 50 years of "comprehensive legislation" on abortion regulation had implicitly repealed the law. The case was brought forward after the 2022 Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade and returned abortion laws to the states. Catholic leaders have strongly condemned the ruling, calling it a failure to protect human life. Wisconsin Catholic Conference Executive Director Barbara Sella joins us to discuss the moral implications of the decision, its potential nationwide effects, and the role the Church will play in Wisconsin now that the law has been overturned.
