The U.S. Supreme Court issued a number of opinions today, including one that effectively blocks the creation of the nation’s first taxpayer-funded religious charter school. In a 4-4 split, the Court left in place a lower court ruling that found the Saint Isidore of Seville Virtual Charter School in Oklahoma would violate the Constitution’s separation of church and state. Catholic Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused herself, leading to the evenly divided outcome. The organization representing the school, Alliance Defending Freedom, said the work is not over and emphasized that religious groups should not be excluded from public programs. Amy Howe, reporter at SCOTUSblog, joins to share her reaction to the Supreme Court's decision and how this compares to similar cases in recent years. She discusses what might happen with St. Isidore Virtual School moving forward and whether this case only affects the state of Oklahoma.
