What if our falling birth rates have something to do with our increasing inability to accept death? There is a growing reluctance to acknowledge our inevitable deaths as there's an increasing focus on eternal youth, biohacking, and general avoidance, disrupting the natural birth, death, rebirth cycle of nature. Having children is to want to live on in some way, but having children also gives us a stake in the world and motivates us to care about its future. As birth rates plummet, our narcissistic tendencies increase proportionally, leading to paradoxically a faster death and decay of everything.
