Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Wednesday of Holy Week, often known as "Spy Wednesday". We are pleased to be joined in our chapel today by brother priests from Regina Cleri and Bishop Arthur Kennedy as we enter the holiest days of the year.
In today’s reverent liturgy, the celebrant explores the somber reality of betrayal and the "mysteries beyond all telling" through which God redeems the world. Reflecting on the Prophet Isaiah and the Gospel of Matthew, we are reminded that even in the face of spiritual darkness and the "yoke of the cross," God’s grace remains our ultimate hope. We are encouraged to acknowledge our own failures and to trust that through Christ’s sacrifice, we are driven from the power of the enemy and led to the joy of the Resurrection. This Mass is a powerful invitation to follow the Savior through His Passion, trusting in the "divine design" that turns suffering into salvation.
The Scriptures highlight the steadfastness of the Servant and the tragic choice of the betrayer:
-The First Reading (Isaiah 50:4-9): The Prophet speaks of the "well-trained tongue" given by God to rouse the weary. Despite facing buffets and spitting, the Servant sets his "face like flint," knowing that the Lord God is his help and he shall not be put to shame.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 69): A plea for divine mercy in time of distress: "Lord, in your great love, answer me".
-The Holy Gospel (Matthew 26:14-25): Judas Iscariot approaches the chief priests and agrees to hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver. During the Passover meal, Jesus announces that one of the twelve will betray Him, declaring, "Woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed". Judas asks, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" and Jesus responds, "You have said so".
May the sacred mysteries we celebrate today increase our devotion and prepare us for the paschal festivities with purity of heart and mind.
