The fear of going to social events, most often for men, is really the fear of having to present yourself to people you don't know and make small talk.
It's just as true in religious circles. We're all fine once were comfortable in the company of people that know us but getting to that point is a hard bridge to cross. To get ahead of the curve does the Catholic need to possess some skill in the fine art of small talk?
