We often sang this chant, repeating “Lord, have mercy” over and over again, in the Chapel of St Helena, located in the lower part of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the 'mother of all churches'. We used to conclude the prayer of Lauds or Vespers with this plea for the Lord's mercy for all mankind in this holy place. As the Octave of Pentecost comes to an end, we are facing an escalation of war in Israel, Ukraine and other countries. Our contribution is prayer, and we invite all our listeners to join us in this song, asking for true peace — a peace that presupposes reconciliation with God, and thus the conversion of humanity to Him. There could be no better place in the world for this song and video than Calvary, the place where the Son of God shed his blood to redeem all humanity.
