kings, prime ministers, and generals among their members. The idea
that a charitable gentlemen's fraternity was actually a spiritual war

So Pope Leo XIII — the scholar-pope who had just rearmed the Catholic
mind with Aquinas — sat down to write the most detailed, most
theological condemnation of Freemasonry the Church had ever produced.
